On average, 1 person dies by suicide every 11 minutes in the US. About 50% of people in the US know someone who has died by suicide in their lifetime.  September is Suicide Prevention Month. As a school, we felt like it was important to address the stigma associated with talking about suicide.

 

The Acts of Random Kindness club got together to put on an exhibit to spark conversation surrounding this topic. They placed backpacks and luggage in the courtyard and the symbolism behind that was to "send silence packing".

 

We want students to be open and feel comfortable asking questions and correcting misconceptions regarding suicide. Students also went around pinning clothespins with kind words on other students to let them know someone cares and that their story doesn't end here.
