CCA Parents Invited: Talk With Immigration Attorney, October 8th.

This year, College Connection Academy will be hosting two types of speakers for our students during Common Period from 12:35 to 1:35 pm.  Every first Monday of the month we have invited governmental officials to come and explain their duties and responsibilities to the seventh and eighth grade students.  The second Monday of every month, we will be have a career speaker come and discuss their college and career journey.

On Monday, October 1st, Santa Clara County Supervisor Cindy Chavez will be speaking about how and why she enter public service, her background and education, and will be answering questions about pressing issues facing Santa Clara County.  Please take some time to talk to your child about any issues of concern you think they should ask about. November is still unfilled, but Congresswoman Zoe Lofgren will be speaking on the same topics and taking questions on Monday, December 3rd. Also, some time in the new year, San Jose City Council Member Tam Nguyen will come and speak with the students.

The career speakers will start Monday, October 8th and we would like to invite interested parents to attend.  The first speaker is a prominent immigration attorney from this area, Amanda Alvarado-Ford. She will speak of her own experiences at university and as an attorney, but will also be speaking about immigration rights.  Please come by at 12:30 pm if you would like to hear this presentation. Later speakers include a local television news reporter and a research Psychologist.

If you have suggestions or contacts that might be willing to speak in one of these series, please email Ms. Pipersky at [email protected], and she will try to accommodate you.
